As a follower of Jesus Christ, I feel convicted not only to abstain from Halloween, but to pray against it. It is a satanic holiday and wickedness is exalted. You can try to justify it up, down, and sideways, but there really is no justification for participation. Even if you don’t think you celebrate Halloween the way everyone else does, participating in Halloween by decorating, dressing up, or getting candy is still participating in wickedness. God calls us to come out of the world and be separate. To be different. To be holy and set apart for His works.
“Therefore, ‘Come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.’” 2 Corinthians 6:17
“Without holiness, no one will see the Lord.” Hebrews 12:14
Last year, I spent Halloween day fasting and praying, and I came across a list of what to pray against on Halloween. In just reading what happens on that night, in order to pray against it, it makes me sick. You may be in ignorance about what God has to say about the occult and how demonic Halloween actually is. If so, let God open your eyes. If you have hardened your heart and justify it in order to appease your conscience, ask God to soften you and show you the truth.
“When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways (abominations) of the nations there. Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable (an abomination) to the Lord; because of these same detestable practices (abominations) the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you. You must be blameless before the Lord your God.” Deuteronomy 18:9-13
You may refute what I’m saying with the argument that if we can’t celebrate Halloween, why not throw out Christmas, Easter, and every other pagan holiday? Nothing of Christ is lifted up on Halloween. Let’s look at it together. Halloween incorporates and celebrates: the night, darkness, the occult, witches, ghosts/spirits, fear, being scared/scaring others, hideous creatures, death/skulls, spells, graves, zombies, vampires… and the list goes on. Just google “words associated with Halloween” and see how your spirit feels after reading them. My guess is not at peace. Because Halloween has nothing to do with the things of God and, therefore, will bear no fruit of His Spirit. In fact, it all involves everything that is directly and blatantly at enmity with Him. Children are kidnapped, people are sacrificed, occult rituals are performed (spells, curses, séances)—it’s a night of glorifying death and satan. Demonic. How can a Christian who is supposed to be set apart and holy unto the Lord partake in a celebration of darkness? Former Satanist, John Ramirez, says that to participate in Halloween is to cheat on God. It is infidelity to the Lord Jesus Christ. Anton Lavey, founder of the church of Satan, said, “I’m glad Christian parents let their children worship the devil at least one night out of the year.”
You may think having a small “Happy Halloween” sign here, and a friendly ghost decoration there isn’t that harmful, but associations with anything Halloween is an abomination to God. You might think it’s all fantasy and not real, but the truth is, it is all very real. Someone recently gave the analogy that we don’t let our children dress up and pretend abortion, or show them movies with abortion in them and say it’s not real, but we do that very thing with the occult. In fact, we stay far away and stand vehemently opposed to abortion. The same needs to be true of spiritual darkness.
“You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness.” 1 Thessalonians 5:5
As for Harvest Festivals as an alternative for Christian families, I have to ask, why do you need an alternative to a night of celebrating death when you have true life in Christ?
I have attached the link to the list of what to pray against on Halloween as well as a video of what John Ramirez (who spent 25 years in Satanism) says about Halloween. Seriously consider your participation in Halloween with the Lord. Go before Him and ask Him to open your eyes to the darkness of that night. He has called you to be holy. To be holy means to be separate, set apart. Let God set you apart as one of His chosen people in this way. And I urge you to pray. There is power in prayer and prayer changes things. With all that is satanic glorified on Halloween, it is vital you pray. We are in a war and God calls us to fight. It is a lie that your prayers don’t do anything. They do.
“As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, ‘You shall be holy, for I am holy.’” 1 Peter 1:14-16
