“Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but in the time of testing they fall away.” –Luke 8:13
“Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.” –Mark 4:18-19
Late summer of 2019, when Kanye West was coming out as a “Christian,” God opened my eyes to how blasphemous, unclean, and demonic his music really was. I came across a website (linked below) that revealed some of the occult symbolism in Kanye’s music videos. Let me tell you, I didn’t even need the explanation of what was actually behind them in order to want to hurl. All I had to do was watch and I wanted to vomit they were so vile; filled with satanic worship and blasphemy. I never watched music videos when I was in the world. As God opened my eyes to what they were filled with, memories flashed in my mind of all the times I had listened, danced, and sung along to Kanye’s songs.
I was participating in satanic worship.
It struck me like a ton of bricks. I said to God, “You mean every time I listened to one of Kanye’s songs, or danced to his music, I was dancing with the devil and singing to Satan?” Yes. Every. Single. Time. Nightclubs are Satan’s sanctuaries. Think about it, what does one do in church? We sing, and dance, and worship the Lord. What does one do in a nightclub? Sing, and dance, and worship. We were created for worship whether you like it or not. And if you aren’t worshipping and glorifying the one true God, Jesus Christ, then you are worshipping the devil and his demons. There is no neutral ground, because the god of Self is Satan. That’s the great deception. Millions of people are singing and dancing to secular songs in seedy places and have no idea that they are worshipping Satan. No idea.
As I had this realization, I thought of all the other artists I had listened to. All the other music that exalted self, sin, and worldly pleasure. It was long before this that I had given up all secular music (my experience linked below), but I was repenting and letting God cleanse and purify this house.
Before I continue, I am going to preface what I am presenting. I believe that there is a road to salvation. And many people are at different points on that road. People can experience the things of God, without giving Him their heart. People can taste that the Lord is good, without actually consuming Him and letting the Holy Spirit come in and change them. I believe that many can attend church, sing songs to Jesus, read the Bible regularly, and even profess “Jesus is Lord,” without actually being regenerate. I believe that people can act Christian, say Christian things, and participate in Christian activities without actually being saved. The point of salvation comes when a person reaches the foot of the Cross and with understanding of what Jesus has done in paying the price and taking the place for their sins, surrenders their all. At this moment something happens where a person is sealed with the Holy Spirit. God comes in and enables them to do what they could not do before—be holy. They get a new heart, new desires, new appetites, a new spirit.
“And I will put My Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in My statutes and be careful to obey My rules.” –Ezekiel 36:27.
Jesus Himself said, “Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them. Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of My Father who is in heaven. Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name and in Your name drive out demons and in Your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from Me, you evildoers!’ Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” –Matthew 7:17-27
I want to be clear, I am not saying that works are necessary for salvation, I am saying that as a result of salvation, works are done. A good tree produces good fruit. A saved soul produces Godly behavior. Actions are evidences of internal changes. The following is an examination of the fruit produced in Kanye’s life.
In Kanye’s song “Devil in a New Dress” he says, “I know I’m preaching to the congregation/ We love Jesus but you done learned a lot from Satan/ I mean a n**** did a lot of waiting/ We ain’t married but tonight I need some consummation.” If that isn’t bad enough he continues, “May the Lord forgive us/ May the gods be with us/ And that magic hour/ I seen good Christians/ Make brash decision/ Ohh she do it/ What happened to Religion?/ Ohh she lose it.”
His song “Mercy,” also filled with vulgarity and sexual content, opens with a tag line that is repeated throughout. “Well, it is a weepin’ and a moanin’ and a gnashin’ of teeth/ It is a weepin’ and a moanin’ and a gnashin’ of teeth/ It is a—when it comes to my sound which is the champion sound/ Believe, believe.”
Kanye has taken the things of God, that which is sacred and holy, and perverted them. In the first song he talked about a “Christian girl” losing her religion and fornicating with him. Making references to church and “the Lord” forgiving them. In the second song mentioned, he not only named it “Mercy” but also incorporated a phrase the Bible uses to refer to hell. And then encouraged his listeners to “believe.”
“He will cut him to pieces and assign him place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” –Matthew 24:51
Kanye has a song titled “I Am a God.” Kanye has referred to himself as Yeesus. There are images of Kanye on a cross. Kanye was on the cover of Rolling Stone wearing a crown of thorns. Kanye West is a blasphemer. Until he repents of his blasphemy and tells everyone to stop buying his music, not only that, but to destroy his music and everything he created before coming to Christ, then he hasn’t truly come to Christ at all. To repent means to change your mind, or to change directions; to turn away from sin and turn towards Jesus. A true conversion consists of literally wanting nothing to do with your old sinful life and everything unholy so much, that you consider yourself dead to it; crucified with Christ. Cut off. No more. Kanye has altered his course by a few degrees, the man has not done a 180. And until he does, he is capitalizing on Christianity and raking in the dough on the back of your scourged Savior—making a mockery of Christ and Christianity the whole while. (His Jesus Is King sweatshirts sell for $100 and more). The man needs Jesus, just like we all do, but him brazenly announcing “Jesus is King” without explicit public repentance for his specific blasphemous behavior is a deception. And a self-deception at that. The first thing that Jesus said when His disciples asked Him about the end times was, “Watch out that no one deceives you” (Matt. 24:4). I’m not saying that Kanye can’t repent, please pray that he does, but for true conversion to take place, there will be fruit produced that resembles a total forsaking of his past life. Kanye has not forsaken his past life, but tried to incorporate it into his Sunday Services. “Jesus Walks” and “Ultralight Beam” are songs that were birthed in a cesspool of demonic. You can’t take what is profane and try to make it holy. Kanye can’t take worldly songs he sung to the devil, change one or two lines, and then sing those songs in worship to God.
Jesus is King appeared like Kanye was moving away from the profane and secular. However, in a more recent occurrence, Kanye co-produced a song by Lil Nas X; a popular rapper who has come out as a homosexual and is strongly anti-Christian. He inspired the “Satan shoes” that were trending on social media a few months ago. He also made a music video showing himself fall to hell and have sexual relations with Satan. Lil Nas X isn’t hiding who he’s worshipping. He exults everything that is not of God. Kanye co-producing the song not only shows Kanye’s agreement, but his endorsement and support of what Lil Nas X is doing. How can Kanye truly understand who Jesus Christ is and have the Holy Spirit living inside of him while also endorsing, and helping spread the message and fame of, Lil Nas X, who hates everything Kanye claims to love?
Kanye West also partnered with Jay-Z on a song on his upcoming album called Donda. Jay-Z has been responsible for filthy, vulgar, God-hating music as well. Jay-Z is an ardent supporter of causes that are anti-Christian. How can Kanye West be producing music together with him if he is not in agreement?
“Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: ‘I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.’ Therefore, ‘Come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.” –2 Corinthians 6:14-17
There is mixture. And the mixture is far too great to turn a blind eye to. Kanye may be in process, but I can’t say that the man has truly been converted. And I’ll go as far to say that he is being used by Satan to deceive and lead millions astray. It lays a groundwork and foundation for many to see Kanye’s example and say they believe in Jesus, to even say that “Jesus is King,” without actually surrendering to Jesus and making Him the Lord of their lives. It enables people to avoid being truly born again. I used to be one of them. I would participate in Church and Bible Study while also participating in addiction in the same day. I can’t tell you how many times I prayed “The Sinner’s Prayer” while living in the world and nothing came of it. It wasn’t until there was a total surrender of control with my actions by choosing to forsake alcohol and everything that came with it, that there was transformation.
“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” –Matthew 6:24
Does God want to heal, yes. Does God want to redeem, yes. Does God want to set free, yes. Does God want save, yes. But it requires surrender. It requires relinquishing control and letting God be God. It requires transformation. Salvation requires transformation. Without it, you don’t really believe. And without it, you can’t truly be born again. God will require conformity to Jesus Christ in order to truly belong to Him (Rom. 8:29).
The longer you walk with God, the more He intends to set you apart from the world, to make you holy. Let Him. You won’t stand before Jesus trying to justify unholy music, so don’t try to now. Die to this world. Let Jesus make you His. There is power in purity, let God make you a pure vessel for His use. Throw out your Kanye collection and everything else not of God, and glorify God with your music and singing. Every time you listen to music you are participating in worship. The question I’ll leave you with is, who are you worshipping?

Are you proposing that ALL non-worship music, including relatively innocuous pop hits, constitute Satan worship, or only songs that contain occult, blasphemous, or explicit content?

There’s TONS of great music in the world I bet God enjoys too! Not all pop sends negative messages, although there’s certainly tons of problematic content out there.
