The Lion & The Bear
So often I find myself crying out to God in frustration wondering why I can’t conquer a mountain when in reality I’m only at the foothills. The climb is one step at a time. For some reason, I like think that one step is one giant step from the base to the pinnacle. That isn’t so. I’m being grown and prepared as I climb. I have to walk in step with Jesus and trust in His timing. Trust that He is growing me and preparing me today for what is to come tomorrow. I don’t get to defeat Goliath without the Lion and the Bear.
“The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.” Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you.””
1 Samuel 17:37
What I do today matters. All the small things add up. Growth takes time, consistency, discipline, devotion and complete dependence on the Holy Spirit. I don’t get to go from zero to hero. Transformation doesn’t happen over night. It happens one day at a time. One step at a time. One right choice at a time. And the only way I can make those right choices is by relying on Jesus. Discern at every turn. Which means I have to ask the Lord at every fork in road which way I should go. In order for Him to lead and guide me I have to ask for His guidance. Wait on the Lord. Trust in Him with all my heart, and lean not on my own understanding.
So though there are several Goliaths in my life that I can’t seem to conquer, today I look for the lion and the bear. The seemingly small or even medium sized obstacles I’m able to overcome. The victories I don’t always acknowledge because I’m too focused on the giant still to be conquered; or the next mountain to be climbed. Perseverance takes pause; to look at what God has done in order to press on full of hope and faith in what He has yet to do. What little victories do You have in store for me today Lord? What can I conquer and overcome in You?
