As I observed the beauty of the treetops while walking today, I realized how much I was looking up. When I am heavy, burdened, and weighed down I tend to look down. When I am full of hope and light I naturally look up. And the more I look up, the more I am filled with hope, peace, and the joy of knowing Jesus.
The natural mirrors the spiritual.
The more you look down at your problems, pain, and predicaments the more discouraged and inadequate you will feel. The more you look up at Jesus and His strength, His might, His glory, splendor, beauty, and majesty the more you are filled with hope, joy, and peace that surpasses all understanding. Freedom and salvation come to those who turn and look to Jesus.
“Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.”
“For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life.”
I was so filled with hope and joy because God is so faithful and doesn’t miss one detail.
After a night of evangelism, my friend returned to her car being towed last night. As a college student, the towing fees were more than just a dent in her wallet. “You have not because you ask not.” She and I were both more than willing to accept the situation in its entirety and “learn the lesson.” My boyfriend, however, thought differently. He said, “Let’s see what God can do. Can’t hurt to ask.” After asking a few questions, persistence and perseverance in love, and not receiving “no” or “that’s all I can do” for an answer—God moved. The towing fees were cut in half, the manager at the towing company received prayer, and the other employee showed eagerness and receptivity to God. All done in love and the name of Jesus. Unashamedly.
God taught me so much through that small encounter. Look to Jesus. Never stop hoping. Trust He is good. Ask and keep asking…and keep asking. The natural mirrors the spiritual. Perseverance in prayer produces the manifestation of God’s promises. Whatever you are praying for today, keep praying. Keep hoping. Look up. Jesus is mighty to save.
