You can’t “do” your way into right living. You can’t “do” more to ever be enough. There will always be more to do and you will never have done enough. You will never be enough left to your own devices. For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. The only way to enter into right living is peace with God. The only way to have peace with God is through the cross of Jesus Christ. Receiving fully the grace given you by Jesus paying the price for YOUR sin. Not anybody else’s sin, yours. Because once you receive that grace, then your heart abounds in love for God. Out of love for God, righteousness and right living flow.
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9
When you love someone you seek to please, bless, and serve them. If your focus is on the behavior, what you “do,” you’ll never be free. The behavior is a by-product or sign of what’s in the heart. Jesus came to transform your heart, not modify your behavior.
Look at what you do to see what’s in your heart. Examine it. Does Jesus live there? Does He take up residence on the throne of your heart? If not, why not? If so, does it show? Does He rule and reign in only parts of your heart, while you still sit on the throne in others? Jesus is a worthy King and He wants it all. All of you. Totally and completely. Every action, every word, every thought. Jesus wants it all. Have you given Him your all? Because He wants to transform every part of your life. Leaving no area untouched. No matter where you’re at, it is by grace and grace alone that you are saved. And this isn’t a one time thing. It is a work of grace. Have you received His grace today to “do” all that is required of you? Because apart from His grace, you can do nothing. With Him, nothing is impossible.
