I’d rather be poor with the Prince of Peace than be wealthy without Him.
“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.”
To have Jesus is to have everything. The kingdom of heaven is worth more than all I own. In his JOY he went and sold everything he had. How often do I sacrifice for God and look at it as that—a sacrifice, something I’m losing—rather than seeing it as something I am gaining of great value so I gladly lay down what God has asked me to. Gladly sell ALL that I own in order to obtain ALL that God has for me. Why don’t I? Because I don’t always believe that what God has for me is better than what I already have. I hold on to my multi-colored plastic pearls saying, “Are you sure You want me to let these go?” When God has pearls, diamonds, and precious stones of great price in abundance to give me. But the more I lay down what I think I want for what God wants, the more my joy is complete. Jesus really does know what’s best, and His way is the best way always. In joyful surrender I lay down my desires to follow Jesus today. Because when I have Jesus, I have everything that I need.
